WARREN, Pa. (AP) - The Allegheny National Forest is opening its snowmobile trails this week - whether it’s snowed by then or not.

The (Warren) Times Observer ( ) says crews plan to open the trails at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Forest Supervisor Sherry Tune says, “While we cannot predict if there will be snow cover by Dec. 19, we will have the trails open and ready for use so snowmobilers can enjoy them as soon as there is enough snow to operate their machines.”

Although temperatures have been unseasonably warm this month, they’re expected to dip by the weekend. The National Weather Service says snow is possible in the Warren area on Friday and Saturday, when temperatures in the forest will reach only the 30s.

The forest has more than 360 miles of snowmobile trails.
