ELMIRA, Ore. (AP) - A fire destroyed a Lane County home and injured the homeowner.

Lane Fire Authority Chief Terry Ney told The Register-Guard (https://is.gd/UAONcD ) that crews responded to the home in Elmira Monday night after explosions were reported.

Ney says fuels and solvents were stored in the garage, and fire began when a solvent handled by the homeowner ignited. Flames raced from the garage to the rest of the house.

The homeowner went to the hospital in a private vehicle after declining an ambulance ride.

The damage estimate was between $200,000 and $250,000.

Elmira is 15 miles west of Eugene.
