WEST UNION, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say about 30 hogs were killed in a semitrailer crash on Highway 18 in Fayette County.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1YgUrhm ) that the crash happened Monday morning east of West Union.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says a 23-year-old West Union driver lost control of a semitrailer loaded with market hogs and rolled the truck onto the highway.

The surviving hogs were taken to a local farm. The crash closed the highway for more than an hour.

The driver was cited for failure to maintain control.
