ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A California man has pleaded guilty to heroin trafficking in New Mexico.

Prosecutors say 34-year-old Edwin Rodriguez, of Bell Gardens, entered his plea Wednesday in federal court in Albuquerque.

Rodriguez was arrested after a federal drug agent seized nearly three kilograms of heroin from him during an investigation at an Albuquerque bus station on Feb. 4.

Prosecutors say the heroin was wrapped in bundles and concealed in a false compartment in Rodriguez’s suitcase.

Rodriguez was later indicted and charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez faces up to 20 years in federal prison when he’s sentenced.

A sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled.
