DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Police say a man walking across an east side Des Moines street has been hit by a vehicle and killed.

Police say the incident happened Tuesday evening. Investigators say the man was crossing Hubbell Street when he was hit by a southbound vehicle on East 42nd Street.

Sgt. Paul Parizek says the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police on Wednesday identified the man as 61-year-old James Anthony Pascasio, of Des Moines.

The driver of the vehicle that hit him was 19-year-old Osmar Portillo-Rodrigues, of Des Moines.

An investigation of the crash is continuing. Investigators say they don’t think excessive speed or impairment of the driver were factors.

Parizek says the crash led officials to close the intersection for much of Tuesday night.
