VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A toddler is in critical condition after suffering burns to half her body in the Detroit-area house fire that killed her 14-year-old uncle.

Seven people, including four children, were in the home when the fire started at about 4 a.m. Sunday in Van Buren Township.

Family members tell the Ann Arbor News (https://bit.ly/1mnDVLn ) that Savion Robinson went to save his 2-year-old niece, Amariyana Wells, after sending one of his sisters for help. The girl’s grandmother, Cherie Wells, says firefighters found Amariyana at the top of the stairs and Savion in the basement.

Savion was killed in the fire. Six people, including Amariyana, were taken to a hospital.

Wells says Amariyana and one of Savion’s sisters remain in the hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
