KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - Officials with the private prison operator that runs Arizona State Prison-Kingman say sex offenders that are set to be housed at the prison by the end of March will be taken elsewhere before their release.

The Arizona Department of Corrections said last week that the Hualapai Housing Unit that has been closed since riotous inmates destroyed housing pods in July will house sex offenders when it reopens.

The Kingman Daily Miner reports (https://bit.ly/1Jc4hVl ) that residents of Kingman and Golden Valley expressed concerns that sex offenders would not go home after their release or that they would participate in work programs outside of the prison.

GEO Group officials say sex offenders are not eligible for work programs and will be taken outside of Mohave County for their processing and release.
