KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) - Klamath County Sheriff Frank Skrah has pleaded not guilty to nine misdemeanor charges related to allegations that he used excessive force.

The Herald and News reports (https://bit.ly/1Mhbof8 ) that Skrah’s attorney Rosalind Lee entered the plea on his behalf by phone on Tuesday. Neither she nor Skrah was in the courtroom.

Judge Roxanne Osborne says Skrah only needs to appear if motions or other important actions are being considered.

Skrah was charged in September with assault, attempted assault, strangulation, harassment and official misconduct. Prosecutors say he used excessive force on three different suspects and didn’t compensate a citizen for property damage caused by an on-duty deputy.

Skrah remains on the job, although the court has placed restrictions on his interactions with inmates, suspects and alleged victims.
