TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a 48-year-old man accused in the shooting death of a Louisiana sheriff’s deputy has been arrested in Alabama.

Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit Capt. Gary Hood told multiple news outlets Wednesday that James Darby was arrested in connection to the death of Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Tracey Marshall. The 47-year-old Marshall was found dead Monday morning in her vehicle from multiple gunshot wounds.

Darby was arrested Tuesday during a traffic stop. He had an outstanding warrant from New Orleans for violation of the sex offender registration act.

Marshall served 10 years at the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Earlier this year, she was tapped to move over into the Jefferson Parish courthouse.

Darby is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail under no bond pending extradition to Louisiana.
