NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Charleston County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred as a motorist was fleeing from North Charleston police officers.

Sheriff’s Maj. Eric Watson says it happened about 6 p.m. Tuesday when North Charleston officers tried to stop a motorist for a traffic violation.

The motorist drove off and sideswiped two cars. Then the motorist hit a pickup truck and a passenger in the truck died in the collision.

A news release said that deputies are investigating and that the coroner would release the name of the victim.
