SCITUATE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island State Police say a Scituate neighborhood was evacuated after a man barricaded himself in his house.

Police responded to the home on Tuesday night after a woman reported that her husband locked himself in a spare bedroom and might be armed.

Officers evacuated neighbors at around 9 p.m. and negotiated with the man. Police say they eventually convinced him to come outside peacefully.

The residents were allowed to return to their homes Wednesday morning.

The man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. No guns were found in the home and the man was not charged. Police say his identity hasn’t been released due to mental health issues.
