ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Police say one teenager is dead following a “verbal” confrontation with another teen in St. Petersburg.

Assistant police Chief Jim Previtera called the Wednesday afternoon shooting a “name-calling” that ended in the shooting death of 17-year-old Gabriel Wallace.

The Tampa Bay Times (https://bit.ly/226YoEL ) reports the argument started in an apartment before spilling outside. Officers responding to the scene found the teen on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition.

Police say Wallace was declared dead about 5:40 p.m.

Investigators say they’re searching for an 18-year-old who fled the scene. Previtera says there is probable cause to arrest the teen. Authorities were working with a third party late Wednesday to convince him to turn himself in to police.
