CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - The University of Illinois says it has hired a search firm to help it look for a new athletic director.

Interim Chancellor Barbara Wilson said Wednesday that the school has hired Los Angeles-based Korn Ferry to aid in the search for a replacement for Mike Thomas.

Wilson said Korn Ferry will work with a campus committee now searching for candidates. The firm will be paid $140,000.

Thomas was fired in November. Wilson said he had done nothing wrong but that the athletic department needed to “turn the page” following accusations of mistreatment of football and women’s basketball players by coaches.

Football coach Tim Beckman was fired over allegations against him.

Paul Kowalczyk is the interim athletic director but has said he doesn’t want the permanent job.
