DETROIT (AP) - Two attendants with Detroit Emergency Medical Services are accused of hitting a man who was having a seizure.

The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says 37-year-old Byron Beales and 25-year-old Brian Bachynski were arraigned Thursday on a misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault. Judge Ruth Carter scheduled a pretrial conference for Jan. 5 and did not require either defendant to post a bond for release.

Prosecutors say the man who was having the seizure Aug. 30 had a red eye and a bruised face when he arrived at a local hospital. They say the man’s children reported seeing Beales and Bachynski strike him.

The Associated Press left a message seeking comment with an attorney for the defendants. Both stood mute at the hearing and not-guilty pleas were entered on their behalf.
