PITTSBURGH (AP) - A former history professor is suing her former employer, alleging the western Pennsylvania college discriminated against her because she’s a woman and breached her contract by not giving her tenure.

The (Sharon) Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1mp9lkC ) Cynthia Kreisel filed the lawsuit in federal court last week against Theil College in Greenville. The Hermitage woman says she was an assistant professor in 2008 and was promoted in 2012-13, but no longer works there.

A college spokeswoman says the school isn’t commenting on the lawsuit.

Kresiel alleges that the department chairman recommended her for tenure and the promotion and tenure committee agreed. But the lawsuit says an administrator recommended the application be rejected, and she was denied tenure.

She’s seeking to be reinstated to the tenured position and awarded damages and lost compensation.
