DETROIT (AP) - Family members say a teenage boy was fatally shot after visiting his grandmother at a Detroit apartment complex.

Police Sgt. Cassandra Lewis tells The Detroit News that the shooting happened near the Woodward Avenue corridor late Wednesday.

WXYZ-TV reports the boy had just visited his grandmother. Angela Bea, the boy’s aunt, says someone who was hiding in the bushes ran up to the 16-year-old and fired several times.

Police are seeking tips from the public in the search for the shooter, who reportedly fled on foot.
