TYRE, N.Y. (AP) - A hearing is being held on a lawsuit that seeks to derail a casino planned for New York’s Finger Lakes.

The lawsuit was filed last month in Seneca County by a group of residents of Tyre who oppose plans for the Lago Resort and Casino. The plaintiffs claim the town board did the bidding of casino developers by failing to properly scrutinize how the large development would affect the local environment.

Lago developers say the lawsuit is without merit and that their casino has overwhelming local support.

A trial-level judge will hear arguments in the case Thursday in Seneca County.

Lago is among four proposed upstate New York casinos awaiting a final decision from state gambling regulators.
