CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Interstate 80 was briefly reopened Thursday following a winter snowstorm, but was shut down again within hours.

The stretch between Laramie and Rock Springs was shut down at about 3:30 p.m. due to multiple wrecks, poor visibility, blowing snow and slippery conditions.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation had closed parts of Interstate 80 in southern Wyoming on Thursday morning mainly to allow truck traffic that had backed up during the storm to clear.

Hundreds of trucks were parked along the interstate between Rawlins and Laramie because of the storm and hazardous conditions.

To relieve the congestion, eastbound I-80 was closed from Rock Springs to Rawlins, while westbound I-80 was closed between Cheyenne and Laramie. The interstate reopened around noon.
