PULASKI, Va. (AP) - A judge has denied a request for a court-funded analysis of social media comments about the mother of a boy who died in a septic tank.

Ashley White’s attorneys sought the $14,000 analysis. Media outlets report that Circuit Judge Bradley Finch denied the request on Wednesday.

Defense attorney Kelsey Bulger told Finch that violent and threatening online comments could point to bias that could comprise White’s right to a fair trial.

White is charged with child abuse and neglect. The 31-year-old Dublin woman and 32-year-old Paul Thomas are accused of leaving their 5-year-old son, Noah Thomas, and infant daughter, Abigal, home alone on March 22. The boy’s body was found in a septic tank near the family’s home on March 26.

Paul Thomas also is charged with abuse and neglect.
