PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A St. Marys man will serve life behind bars in connection with the death of a one-year-old child.

News outlets report Curtis Richards II was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday on a murder charge, and to one to 10 years on a grand larceny charge. The sentences will be served consecutively and he’s eligible for parole.

Richards pleaded guilty in October to the murder charge in connection to the Aug. 2014 death of the child. An autopsy revealed the child suffered head injuries and injuries to her neck. Richards was captured in Mexico City in late September 2014. He apologized to the family in court Wednesday.

Richards also pleaded guilty to taking more than $1,500 from a restaurant.

His attorney told the court they intend to appeal the sentence.
