NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City charity says it has an urgent need for winter coat donations.

New York Cares said Thursday that it has about three weeks remaining in its annual coat drive.

It’s collected 30,000 but has more than 100,000 requests.

New York Cares notes that winter weather is inevitable despite the recent balmy weather.

The donated clothing goes to homeless and low-income families, seniors on fixed incomes and others who need help keeping warm.

Through Dec. 31, new or gently used coats may be deposited at hundreds of locations citywide. They include all police precincts, Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal and other sites.
