PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Four Providence police officers brought some holiday cheer to the city’s south side when they replaced a bicycle stolen from a 10-year-old girl this past weekend.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1MisGZi ) Officers John Benros, Jared Stanzione, Eduardo Curi and Michael Barrera delivered a purple Schwinn to Mayra Feliz on Tuesday.

The officers all assisted in the search for Feliz’s bike, which was stolen while she was shopping with her mother on Saturday afternoon.

Police say Feliz tried yelling at the older boy stealing her bike, but he simply ignored her and pedaled off.

After the search came up empty, the officers pooled their cash together and purchased the new bike for Feliz.

The officers say they were moved by Feliz’s story given that the theft occurred so close to Christmas.
