NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities are searching for a handcuffed prisoner who escaped from police custody in lower Manhattan.

It happened at the intersection of West Broadway and Franklin Street around 7:40 p.m. Thursday.

It wasn’t clear how the prisoner escaped. Authorities say the man was last seen entering the Franklin Street subway station.

The search caused temporary subway service disruptions on the 1, 2 and 3 trains between 14th Street and South Ferry and 14th Street and Wall Street.

The incident is one of several recent escapes from NYPD custody. Earlier this month, police recaptured a man who had escaped custody in Brooklyn on Oct. 20 while in handcuffs.
