SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle police say a beloved woodshop teacher was shot and killed in Belltown.

KING-TV reports (https://kng5.tv/1Nrr4AD ) that police found Brent McDonald laying on a sidewalk around 3 a.m. Sunday. People reported hearing gunfire moments earlier.

McDonald was taken to the hospital, where he died.

He taught middle school-aged children to use their hands and craft things like gravity-powered racers at a Seattle non-profit called Coyote Central.

Coyote Central Executive Director Claudia Stelle says the non-profit is looking to guidance counselors and families to help students impacted by McDonald’s death.

Staff members estimate that McDonald worked with about 700 children in his 11 years at Coyote Central.
