STANTON, Calif. (AP) - Orange County Fire Authority officials say several snakes were killed when flames ripped through a reptile store in Stanton.

Capt. Steve Concialdi says the blaze was reported shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Reptile Outlet on Beach Boulevard.

Crews had the flames knocked down in less than 40 minutes. Members of an animal rescue group helped firefighters bring a few hundred reptiles out of the building.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/1RTRzSl) as many as 800 snakes, lizards and other reptiles were in the store when the blaze broke out.

Officials didn’t immediately say how many animals were killed. No humans were hurt.

The fire’s cause is under investigation.
