BEND, Ore. (AP) - Police say Bend bank employees were held hostage for a short time when a man showed an employee what looked like explosives and demanded money.

KTVZ reports (https://is.gd/APuMhA ) a 72-year-old La Pine man placed what appeared to be dynamite Friday afternoon.

Police negotiators arrived and the suspect emerged from the bank about 30 minutes later to surrender - shirtless and with his hands up.

The Oregon State Police bomb squad later determined the possible dynamite and other items were hoax devices.

Capt. Paul Kansky said Thomas A. Henderson was arrested and booked on charges of robbery, kidnapping, possession of hoax destruction devices and coercion.

Several businesses were evacuated during the incident and Bend and Marshall high schools went into lockdown.
