LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has approved its $196.4 million budget for 2016, a $19 million increase from the $177.4 million in this year’s budget.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) most of the increase - $14 million - is related to spending for major capital projects, including Family and Juvenile Court, Juvenile Justice, Animal Services and the Coroner’s Office.

These projects will partly be paid with bond money and will be paid back with existing funding. That includes $42 million in gambling funds paid over seven years, $650,000 from the juvenile justice tax over 15 years, and $610,000 from the parish’s general fund over 15 years.
