LORIS, S.C. (AP) - It wasn’t what anyone would call a landslide. It was a single vote this week that put the new mayor of the Horry County community of Loris in office.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (https://bit.ly/1PdddAv ) that after the election was certified on Thursday, Henry Nichols had 247 votes to 246 votes for Michael Suggs.

The Tuesday night results showed Nichols leading by four votes.

Peggy Keefer has been on the Election Commission in the community of about 2,500 for the past 15 years. She says she’s seen races decided by fewer than 10 votes but nothing like this.
