SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A 22-year-old central New York man on the run from sex abuse charges has been arrested in Kentucky and is awaiting extradition back to New York state.

Javier Alfonso of Syracuse was arrested Wednesday by federal marshals in Louisville, just over two weeks after the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department placed him on its most wanted list.

Alfonso was wanted on a felony warrant for a criminal sex act allegedly committed involving a child under age 11.

The investigation began after the victim disclosed the alleged abuse to a family member. Detectives determined that Alfonso had subjected his victim to unwanted and unacceptable conduct over a two-year span.

Alfonso fled the area before detectives could apprehend him.
