HOUMA, La. (AP) - Terrebonne Parish prosecutors have dropped charges against a Gibson man accused of beating his girlfriend and killing their unborn child in early May.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1IbBx4g) 37-year-old Tyson Cheavis was booked on May 6 with second-degree feticide.

Cheavis was sentenced Monday to one year in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree battery.

Sheriff’s deputies say Cheavis’ 27-year-old girlfriend reported multiple instances of domestic violence leading up to the death of the child. Records show that Cheavis has no prior criminal history of battery.
