ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The Omnibus spending bill pending before Congress contains a big dose of funding for two helicopter projects with ties to New York’s Southern Tier.

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand are pushing for passage of the bill, which has more than $663 million tabbed for Lockheed Martin’s work on a fleet of presidential helicopters and a fleet of combat rescue helicopters.

The current fleet of presidential helicopters is 35 to 40 years old and in need of replacing.

The new appropriation is aimed at keeping both programs on schedule for the following year.

Once the bill clears Congress, it will head to the President’s desk for his final signature.
