BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a stretch of U.S. 280 in Talladega County is expected to be closed for hours after a crash involving a tanker truck.

Senior state trooper Chuck Daniel said in an emailed statement that a heavy fuel spill prompted the closure of all four lanes of the highway between Sylacauga and Childersburg Friday evening. Daniel said as of 5:45 p.m., authorities expected the area near the accident to be closed for at least six hours.

Authorities say the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries. The cause of the crash is unclear.

The Alabama Department of Transportation, the state department of emergency management and other agencies are on the scene and officials ask drivers to use alternate routes.
