NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A Norfolk man has admitted to stabbing his roommate over beer money and using the dead man’s credit card at a bar.

The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1Pa7k4U ) reports 53-year-old Matthew Thomas Mangus pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and credit card fraud charges Thursday following the death of 71-year-old David G. McDonald.

A judge has sentenced Mangus to 50 years behind bars.

Mangus said on June 1 he had asked McDonald for beer money, but McDonald refused, which led to an argument. Mangus then grabbed a knife and stabbed his roommate to death. Afterward, Mangus took the man’s wallet and with the stolen credit card and cash, he went to a bar and ordered rounds of beer.

The bartenders called the police after they noticed Mangus was bleeding. He was arrested that night.
