PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a man is in custody in connection with a homicide case in Phoenix.

Phoenix police say 31-year-old Calvin Manheimer is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Police and Phoenix Fire officials responded Wednesday night to an injured person on 27th Avenue just north of Indian School Road.

A citizen at the scene reported that the suspect approached the victim and struck him several times without apparent provocation.

The suspect walked away from the immediate area but was located by police and arrested without incident.

Police say the victim was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. He’s been identified as 37-year-old Francisco Marquez.

Detectives still are trying to determine a possible motive and whether Manheimer and Marquez knew each other.
