SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police have identified a man who fell to his death while canyoneering in southern Utah.

Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies said Friday that 25-year-old Kelvin Curtis of St. George was with three other people at a canyon north of St. George when he fell about 40 feet on Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say that rescuers hiked to the victim near Yankee Doodle Canyon and confirmed that his injuries were fatal, then recovered his body from the bottom of a 600-foot gorge.

Yankee Doodle Canyon is about 300 miles south of Salt Lake City.
