PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) - A Portsmouth middle school principal has been cleared of a misdemeanor charge of assaulting a student.

Media outlets report that a judge found W.E. Waters Middle School Principal Alice Graham not guilty of assault and battery on Thursday.

Portsmouth police say the 14-year-old student took out the charge against the 48-year-old Graham last month through a magistrate. The incident occurred on Oct. 21.

A Child Protective Services investigation determined the student’s claim was unfounded.
