SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Some San Jose parents are planning to pull their kindergarteners out of school as a form of protest after a decades-old tradition delivering letters to Santa on a field trip was canceled.

KNTV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/22e1PcR ) that Vanessa Howe will be staging a walkout at 10 a.m., when the field trip was scheduled to take place. She and parents who join her will take their children to a coffee shop to visit Santa as was originally planned.

The trip was canceled after a Jewish mother of a child at Sartorette Elementary School sent a letter to the school district asking for the event to be canceled. She said she was not anti-Christmas, but wanted other religions to be represented in school.

Parents who lamented the canceled trip say they are upset because the school did not consult them.
