JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) - A pedestrian struck by a car in Johnston has died, the second victim of a night-time accident.

Rhode Island Hospital and emergency medical officials said Friday that Keith Nunes died.

The 54-year-old Nunes and his girlfriend, 45-year-old Sandra White of Cumberland, were crossing Hartford Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. Monday when they were struck by a Jeep. White died shortly after the accident and Nunes had been in critical condition.

Deputy Police Chief Daniel Parrillo said the couple crossed in an area with no crosswalk and were wearing dark clothing. He also said it was raining and foggy that night.

The 19-year-old driver stopped and no charges have been filed.
