COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The unemployment rate in South Carolina dropped again in November, the sixth straight month the rate has declined.

The state Department of Employment and Workforce announced on Friday that unemployment was 5.5 percent last month, down from 5.6 percent in October.

The department said the unemployment rate has not been so low since August of 2001. Nationally, the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5 percent in November.

A record number of people were working in South Carolina during November. More than 2.1 million had jobs, an increase of more than 9,000 from October.

Since last January, the number of people at work has increased by more than 71,000 in the state.
