MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont bird enthusiasts are being encouraged to participate in the annual Christmas Bird Count, a long-time tradition among Vermont’s birding community.

The count began on Dec. 14 and runs through Jan. 5.

More than a dozen count areas and dates are available where birders can gather to conduct the count - in which people note and record the birds they see in certain areas.

Even novices can participate because every count is led by an experienced birder.

The dates and contact information for each event are listed on the Vermont eBird website https://www.tinyurl.com/XmasBirdVt15
