SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) - Police say an 18-year-old is dead after a solo car crash in Fairfax County.

Fairfax County police said in a statement that officers responded to a report of a crash Friday around 11 p.m. in the area of the Franconia Springfield Parkway and I-95. Police say an initial investigation determined that 18-year-old Laween A. Akrawi of Fairfax Station was driving on the Franconia Springfield Parkway when he lost control of his BMW 3-Series and traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking multiple trees. Police say Akrawi died at the scene.

Police say a 17-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
