TAOS, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police say they are investigating the shooting of a suspect in a domestic violence incident by a Taos law enforcement officer.

State Police say the incident occurred around 7:10 p.m. Friday when Taos police and Taos County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence call.

The preliminary investigation indicates a male suspect possessed a firearm and then shots were fired.

The wounded suspect was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

State Police are not releasing the identity of the suspect or the officers involved pending interviews with those involved.

Authorities also did not say if the suspect was killed by an officer or a deputy.
