PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - The recently fired superintendent of the Dollarway School District in Pine Bluff has been charged with fraudulent use of a school credit card.

Prosecutors allege 54-year-old Patsy Hughey used the credit card for personal items - including $1,400 in tuition to Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. An affidavit says ATU confirmed the Dollarway credit card was used to make the payment.

Court documents do not show that Hughey has entered a plea or has an attorney.

Hughey was fired Nov. 2 without explanation. Court documents say the school’s business manager told police on Nov. 3 that Hughey used a district-issued credit card for unauthorized purchases.

The district has been in academic distress since July 2014 and the Arkansas Board of Education on Dec. 10 approved a state takeover of the district.
