BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Organizers of ice fishing tournaments are being reminded that they need to get a permit from the state Game and Fish Department.

Tournament organizers must submit an application along with fishing tournament regulations to the wildlife agency at least 30 days before the start of the event.

Game and Fish staff will ensure the proposed tournament won’t have negative consequences or conflicts with other proposed tournaments.

The number of open-water tournaments on Lake Sakakawea and Lake Oahe, the Missouri River and Devils Lake are capped each year, depending on the time of the year and the location. Sponsors of tournaments on those water bodies must submit their application to the department before Jan. 1.
