IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A longtime Iowa City bookstore employee is getting a holiday surprise from best-selling author James Patterson.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (https://icp-c.com/1OCYmdN ) that Paul Ingram is one of 87 independent booksellers to receive an honorary holiday bonus from the novelist. Ingram works at Prairie Lights, a popular independent bookstore in downtown Iowa City.

Patterson is giving $250,000 as a thank-you to booksellers for their dedication to spreading the joy of reading.

Ingram says he’s honored to receive the money but does not know exactly how much he will receive. The amount is expected to be between $1,000 and $5,000.

Patterson is known for his Alex Cross book series. He has sold more than 300 million books worldwide.
