BRYSON CITY, N.C. (AP) - Swain County deputies are investigating a high school student who told classmates he was part of an international terror group and wanted to blow up Swain County High School.

Sheriff Curtis Cochran told media outlets the student made the threats Wednesday and deputies searched his home for explosives and his computer. No explosives were found, and the student has not been arrested.

Authorities say the student told others he was from Syria and was a member of the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS.

Statements from police on search warrants say the student told investigators he hasn’t reached out to ISIS, but was impressed with the editing in their videos.

Swain County school officials say the high school was searched and is safe.
