FULL NAME: Patrick Lloyd McCrory.

AGE: 59. Born Oct. 17, 1956, in Columbus, Ohio. Family moved to North Carolina in 1966 and settled in Jamestown.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree, Catawba College, 1978.

OCCUPATION: North Carolina governor, 2013-present. Outside of politics, he worked for nearly 30 years at Duke Energy until 2008. Later he worked at McCrory & Co., a consulting firm founded by his brother, and as senior director of strategic initiatives at the Moore & Van Allen law firm in Charlotte.

PREVIOUS POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Three terms on Charlotte City Council, starting in 1989. Elected Charlotte mayor in 1995, serving a record seven terms through 2009. Republican gubernatorial nominee in 2008 and 2012. He lost to Democrat Beverly Perdue in 2008, but won the 2012 general election, defeating Walter Dalton.
