VASSAR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have tentatively identified a man found dead following a fire at a home in Tuscola County that was being renovated.

WSGW-AM and WNEM-TV report officials say he’s believed to be 54-year-old Jason Whittaker, but DNA tests are needed. Cause of death from the medical examiner’s office was smoke inhalation.

Crews responded around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday following a report of the fire in Vassar Township, about 70 miles northwest of Detroit.

The sheriff’s department says the home was engulfed in flames and firefighters found the body inside. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A pickup truck parked in front of the house was also destroyed.
