FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) - The firing of the Webster County assessor has been rescinded, but the board members still intend to fire her.

The Messenger reports (https://bit.ly/1Xy2fL8 ) that the county Conference Board reinstated Jeanette Thanupakorn (tuh-NOOP’-uh-gahn) Tuesday, and then placed her on paid administrative leave. The action gives her time to request a public hearing.

Thanupakorn was fired on Oct. 27 in the wake of the state’s order for a 16 percent increase in county commercial property valuations. The state had ordered a 38 percent increase, but Thanupakorn didn’t appeal the amount. The county supervisors did so and the state cut the increase to 16 percent.

Webster County Supervisor Mark Campbell told The Messenger that the Conference Board attorney advised the board to redo the firing process.
