MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) - The executive director of a homeless shelter in northern New Jersey is the latest person to be named a “New Jersey Hero.”

Gov. Chris Christie and his wife, Mary Pat, went to the Market Street Mission in Morristown on Wednesday to recognize David Scott’s efforts. They also served a luncheon meal.

The mission’s emergency services program provides tens of thousands of meals and shelter to homeless people and others dealing with alcohol and drug addiction and related problems. Scott has been the mission’s leader since 1989, helping expand its reach across the state and provided essential programs.

The New Jersey Hero program recognizes the work of state residents who greatly contribute to their community.
